“Launch of rail transport services at Okęcie Airport Fryderyk Chopin”.
The purchase of 13 six-car electric multiple units was intended to ensure the operation of the Chopin Airport railway connection with the city center and via Warszawa Wschodnia station, with SulejĂłwek and Legionowo.
The project implemented by the Rapid Urban Railway was financed in 80% from the European Union’s Cohesion Fund.
- The planned total cost of implementation – PLN 369,128,814.12
- The maximum amount of eligible expenses – PLN 298,050,842.48, including directly for the purchase of rolling stock – PLN 297,045,931.00
- Maximum co-financing of the project with EU funds – PLN 238,440,673.98
The supplier of the rolling stock (13 electric multiple units) was PESA Bydgoszcz SA with its registered office in Bydgoszcz.
Vehicles run from Chopin Airport to Warszawa Wschodnia station three times an hour, and from Warszawa Wschodnia station, once an hour in the direction of Legionowo and twice an hour to Sulejówek Miłosna.
The goals of the project are:
- provision of rail service to the Chopin International Airport in Warsaw,
- increasing the share of environmentally friendly public transport in servicing the residents of Warsaw and its metropolitan area,
- a significant increase in the number of rail travelers related to the purchase of new rolling stock with a high safety standard,
- ensuring access to rail transport for the disabled persons.
The project is complementary to the project implemented by PKP PLK S.A., consisting in the construction of a railway link from Chopin Airport to railway line No. 8, the so-called “radomska”.
Both projects, both implemented by Rapid Urban Railway and PKP PLK S.A. were directly related to EURO2012 football championship in terms of servicing fans and tourists who stayed in Warsaw.
Technical data of 13 vehicles:
- maximum driving speed 130 km/h,
- start-up acceleration of 1 m/s² up to 50 km/h,
- two-stage suspension ensuring high vehicle ride comfort,
- automatic front couplers,
- single-space interior in the arrangement of seats ensuring maximum use of the interior capacity,
- equipped with a monitoring system for the interior and the nearest external environment,
- passenger-driver communication system automatically linked to the monitoring system,
- wide entrance door,
- equipped with an efficient air conditioning system,
- travel information systems,
- system of independent door opening by passengers with a button,
- access and specially prepared places for people with reduced mobility,
- places intended for transporting bicycles.
The vehicles can carry almost 1,000 passengers at a time – about 300 people seated and over 700 standing.
