FAQ

SKM trains in Warsaw use the ZTM Warsaw ticket system. You need a regular public transport ticket, the same as for trams, buses, or the metro.

You can use:
– Short-term or long-term tickets,
– Time-based tickets (valid for a set number of minutes),
– Tickets valid for Zone 1 or Zones 1 and 2, depending on your journey.

Make sure to buy a ticket that is:
– Valid for enough time for your journey,
– Valid in the correct zone(s).
If you are travelling to or from a stop in Zone 2, choose a ticket valid in Zones 1 and 2.
If you have the right documents, you can buy a discounted (reduced fare) ticket.

Paper tickets (bought at shops or ticket machines outside the train) must be validated in a ticket validator before travel.
Mobile app tickets must be activated by scanning the QR code inside the train (near the doors).

Tickets bought from machines inside the train are already validated. Time starts immediately when you buy.
If you buy a ticket in a train waiting at the first station, remember: the time is already counting.

You must have a valid ticket before your journey. Travelling without a valid ticket may result in a fine.

You can buy SKM train tickets:
– At ticket machines, ZTM Passenger Service Points, and newsagents/kiosks,
– In mobile apps (e.g. moBilet, mPay, SkyCash, jakdojade.pl, zBiletem.pl, GoPay),
– In ticket machines located inside all SKM trains.

Tickets bought inside the train can only be paid for by card – cash is not accepted.

You cannot buy a ticket:
– From the train crew,
– At railway station ticket offices.

Tickets bought at shops or ticket machines (outside the train) must be validated in a ticket validator before your journey.
Mobile tickets must be activated by scanning the QR code inside the train (near the doors).

If the ticket machine inside the train is not working, you are still responsible for having a valid ticket. Travelling without one may result in a fine.

No. SKM train staff, just like tram and bus drivers in Warsaw, do not sell tickets.
If you want to buy a ticket on board, you can only use the ticket machine inside the train — card payment only.

No. All SKM trains — just like trams and buses in Warsaw Public Transport — are equipped with ticket machines that accept only card payments.
Cash is not accepted.

The journey between Warsaw Central Station and Chopin Airport takes more than 20 minutes.
You need to buy a ticket that is valid for a longer time than 20 minutes.

No. Bicycles can be transported free of charge on SKM trains.

Please note:

You must place your bicycle only in designated areas inside the train.
If all bicycle spaces are already taken, the train staff may ask you to leave the train for safety reasons.

Travelling with pets is free of charge on SKM trains.

Please remember:
Small animals must be transported in a carrier.
Dogs must wear a muzzle and be kept on a lead, unless they are small enough to travel in a carrier.

Yes, but only with certain types of ZTM tickets and only in a limited area.

The following ZTM tickets are accepted on most Koleje Mazowieckie (KM) trains within the city area:
– 1-day ticket
– 3-day ticket
– Weekend ticket (including group ticket)
– 30-day and 90-day tickets
– Senior citizen ticket
– Ticket for children from families with three or more children

These tickets are valid on KM trains only within a limited area, between the following stations:
Sulejówek Miłosna, Otwock Śródborów, Zalesie Górne, Pruszków, Płochocin, Legionowo Przystanek, Legionowo Piaski, and Zagościniec.

Important exception – RL line to Chopin Airport:
On the KM RL line between Warsaw Chopin Airport and Warszawa Płudy, all ZTM tickets are valid, including:
– 20-minute ticket
– 75-minute and 90-minute tickets
– Any other ZTM ticket type

This applies in both directions.

Only in certain situations.

1. With the KM Airport Ticket (Bilet Lotniskowy):
If you have a Koleje Mazowieckie Airport Ticket, you can travel on SKM trains and other Warsaw Public Transport (WTP) services:
– For 75 minutes from the time you start your journey (you must write the start time clearly on the paper ticket or enter it in the app),
– Only within Zone 1.

2. On selected SKM routes:
All valid KM tickets are accepted on the following SKM lines, as long as they cover the route:
– Line S2 – between Warszawa Chopin Airport and Warszawa Wschodnia
– Line S3 – between Warszawa Chopin Airport and Warszawa Płudy

3. In special cases:
In rare situations, such as major disruptions or delays, KM tickets may be temporarily accepted on SKM trains.

You can use ZTM tickets on WKD trains only between: Warszawa Śródmieście WKD and Opacz

WKD tickets are not valid on SKM trains.

There is one exception: In special situations (such as major disruptions or delays), SKM may temporarily accept WKD tickets.

If this happens, a notice will be published on the websites of: Warsaw Public Transport (WTP) and Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa (WKD).

No. Szybka Kolej Miejska (SKM) and Koleje Mazowieckie are two separate railway operators, each with its own ticketing system and fare policy.

Yes, you can bring a bicycle on SKM trains free of charge, but you must follow the onboard rules.

Bicycles must be transported only in designated areas, located at the front and rear of the train. Please place your bike in the appropriate rack or stand. The number of racks is limited. If all the racks are already occupied or you place your bike outside the designated area, train staff may ask you to leave the train or may not allow you to board.

In some trains, similar to city buses, the space for bicycles is shared with areas reserved for wheelchair users and passengers with strollers. Remember that they have priority. If a wheelchair user boards the train, you are required to give up the space. If you don’t, train staff may ask you to leave the train.

No, SKM trains do not offer Wi-Fi.

Park & Ride (P+R) parking facilities are available near the following SKM stops:
– Warszawa Jeziorki
– Warszawa Żerań
– Warszawa Ursus-Niedźwiadek
– Warszawa Wawer
– Warszawa Anin

You can use Park & Ride facilities free of charge if you hold a valid:
– 24-hour ticket
– 3-day ticket
– weekend ticket (including group ticket)
– 30- or 90-day ticket
– senior citizen ticket

Are SKM trains accessible for wheelchair users?
Yes. All SKM trains are modern vehicles fully adapted to the needs of people with reduced mobility and passengers with disabilities.

Each train has designated spaces for wheelchair users, equipped with a stable and comfortable wheelchair backrest and a safety belt. There is also a button that allows passengers to notify the train staff if assistance is needed.

At the first and last doors of the train, there are deployable ramps that allow direct access between the platform and the train for wheelchair users. These ramps are operated by train staff.

Please note that not all stations and stops are fully accessible and may have architectural barriers. Before your journey, check the accessibility of your departure and arrival stations on the Portal Pasażera – the official passenger information portal for Polish railways: portalpasazera.pl

Appeals regarding additional charges issued on SKM trains for travelling without a valid ticket or without the required entitlement to a reduced or free fare are handled by the Warsaw Public Transport Authority (ZTM).

You can submit your appeal directly to ZTM via the electronic Passenger Service Point: e-pop.wtp.waw.pl, or at any of the in-person Passenger Service Points.

You may also contact SKM by email at: biuro@skm.warszawa.pl. Your case will be forwarded to ZTM for review, and the response will be provided directly by ZTM.
