Why Is the Train Driver Instructor Forum Important for the Railway Sector?

There are professional groups whose work has a direct impact on the safety of thousands of passengers every day. Train Driver Instructors are among those whose roles are rarely discussed more widely, even though their experience, knowledge and readiness to respond to unusual situations are crucial to the functioning of the railway system. Joanna Tucholska, Director of the Development Division at Szybka Kolej Miejska and Vice-President of the Association of Local Government Railway Operators, explains the need to create an event addressing the challenges faced by this group.

As Joanna Tucholska emphasises, the event is a response to the needs expressed by the professional community, which was looking for its own space within industry discussions.

“The impulse to create the Forum came from the need to exchange experiences. There was a lack of space where train driver instructors could meet within their own group, talk about everyday challenges and share practical knowledge. Today, it is clear how needed it was and how much value it brings to the entire community,” says Joanna Tucholska.

This practical dimension is what makes the Forum more than just another industry event. It has become a space for sharing knowledge and experience, building relationships and strengthening the community of professionals responsible for training, professional development and safety in rail transport.

The fourth edition of the Train Driver Instructor Forum confirmed that the event attracts an increasing number of experts and practitioners each year, all interested in discussing real challenges related to working in the railway sector. Its value can be seen not only in official presentations and discussions, but also in informal conversations, where questions, observations and topics arising from everyday work naturally emerge.

The Forum is organised and initiated by Szybka Kolej Miejska, and this year’s event partner and patron was the Association of Local Government Railway Operators.
