What Does the Path to Becoming a Train Driver Look Like Today?
The profession of a train driver is not only about operating a train, but above all about responsibility for passenger safety, knowledge of regulations and the ability to respond to various situations. The path to becoming a train driver requires obtaining the appropriate qualifications and completing a multi-stage training process. Adam Łagoda, Director of the IT Department at the Office of Rail Transport, explains what this looks like in practice.
As the expert emphasises, the first step is making a conscious decision to pursue this career path. Motivation and confidence that the profession aligns with a candidate’s interests and aptitudes make it easier to progress through the subsequent stages.
The first stage involves training followed by an examination for a train driver licence. Next, the candidate undergoes further, more advanced training that prepares them to obtain a train driver certificate. This stage includes both theoretical knowledge and practical preparation to operate specific types of trains.
“Only after obtaining this document do we truly become a train driver,” the Director points out, emphasising that the entire process requires time, commitment and systematic learning. This highlights that the profession demands proper preparation and qualifications.
As Adam Łagoda notes, although the pathway to obtaining qualifications is clearly defined, success largely depends on commitment, motivation and readiness for intensive learning and continuous development of skills.
