Warsaw Honours Its Sports Champions

Last Friday, the 26th Warsaw Sports Champions Gala took place at the Ursynów Sports and Recreation Centre. Szybka Kolej Miejska Sp. z o.o. (SKM Warszawa) was a partner of the event. During the gala, the city summed up the year 2025 and honoured athletes, coaches, and sporting events that helped shape Warsaw’s sports scene and gave residents many reasons to be proud.

Together with the competition jury, the residents of Warsaw once again selected the best athletes of the capital. Voting was open from 9 December 2025 to 25 January 2026. The results showed how important sport is to the people of Warsaw.

Winners and Distinctions

The nominees included outstanding representatives of various sports disciplines – Olympic and Paralympic medallists, as well as European and World Champions. Their success is the result of hard work, dedication, and determination. Many of them regularly overcome their own limits and barriers, proving that willpower plays a key role in sport.

This year’s main award winners were:

• Best Athlete of the Year: Iga Świątek – tennis,
• Sport Without Barriers: Kinga Dróżdż – wheelchair fencing, IKS AWF,
• Coach of the Year: Jarosław Szymczyk – rowing, AZS AWF Warszawa,
• Sports Personality of the Year: Agata Załęcka – freediving, Quest Freediving Warszawa.

Awards decided by public vote:

• Most Popular Athlete of the Year: Iga Świątek – tennis,
• Sports Team of the Year: Legia Warszawa Basketball Section,
• Sports Event of the Year: “Wybiegaj Krew i Szpik” at PGE Narodowy 2025.

Emotions, Congratulations and Sporting Community

The gala was not only a summary of achievements but also a moving reminder that sport connects people, inspires them, and builds community. The evening was filled with emotions, congratulations, and words of thanks to those who, through their work and talent, promoted Warsaw at national and international levels.

Speakers on stage repeatedly emphasised that the achievements of Warsaw’s athletes are a source of pride for the entire city. Their successes inspire younger generations to stay active and to pursue their sporting dreams.

We congratulate this year’s winners and keep our fingers crossed for all Polish athletes. We are confident that their achievements will bring us many more unforgettable moments.
