Do Modern Examination Systems More Effectively Verify the Readiness of Train Driver Candidates?
Modern technologies are playing an increasingly important role in the training and assessment of train drivers. Thanks to the use of simulators, it is now possible to evaluate skills in situations that cannot be safely recreated in real-life conditions. Adam Łagoda, Director of the IT Department at the Office of Rail Transport (UTK), explains the importance of these tools in the training process.
The expert points out that in the past it was virtually impossible to assess how a train driver would react to situations that could lead to serious accidents or disasters. Today, this gap is filled by simulators, which make it possible to realistically recreate emergency scenarios without putting people or infrastructure at risk.
As the UTK representative explains, technological advancements also enable examinations to be conducted in a more objective and automated manner, particularly in their theoretical components. In the practical area, electronic systems supporting train drivers are becoming increasingly important, and their operation must also be properly assessed during the examination process.
Adam Łagoda’s remarks demonstrate that modern technologies not only enhance railway safety but also improve the quality of training and competency assessment. Simulators and support systems make it possible to evaluate both practical skills and professional aptitude in a more objective way, helping to prepare train drivers for work in demanding and unpredictable situations.
